unknown, probably Persian (Black); copied by Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Ḥasan (213r); a statement on f. 213v reads ‘this copy has been composed ... the year 720’, that is 1320-1 AD.


erased statements of ownership (1r); a marginal gloss in the hand of ʿAlī al-Riyāḍī al-Munajjim, owner of the manuscript (49r; MS Istanbul, Nurosmaniye 2685 contains a Risāla fī Bayān quwwā l-insāniyya in Turkish by an ʿAlī al-Riyāḍī); a fainted statement of ownership dated to the beginning of Muḥarram (the year is missing) by Yāsīn ⟨…⟩ al-Wahhāb al-Ṭarābī⟨…⟩ī, who can be identified as Yāsīn b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Ṭarābīshī al-Kīlānī, the owner of numerous manuscripts currently held at the Ẓāhiriyya and al-Azhar libraries with statements of ownership dated between 1228/1813 and 1243/1827-8 (1r).

A single clear black naskh hand with early nastaʿlīq elements; mostly dotted ductus; book headings in bold naskh in gold; chapter headings, when provided, in red introduced by the term faṣl, although most are left blank; text quoted from Ṭūsī’s Taḥrīr al-Majisṭī indicated with overlines in red and introduced with formulaic qawlu-hu in bold red or gold; text by Nīsābūrī introduced by formulaic aqūlu in bold red or gold; but spaces for most of these formulae are left empty; most numerals in abjad notation in black without overlines; no shaddas, few hamzas, almost no vowels. Substantial diagrams, some incomplete lacking abjad notation; diagram lines in red; abjad notation in diagrams in black; diagram labels in black; minor tables; table lines in red; table headings in red and black; abjad notation in tables in red and black. Dimensions: 264×166 mm, written area: 166×95 mm; 29 lines per page. Substantial moisture stains that at times blur the text. Covers in dark brown leather over paper pasteboards; blind-stamped medallion on covers and flap. Type II binding.
